Laporan polis (police report)
A laporan polis, the Malay term for a police report, is the official written record of an accident lodged with the police. It describes what happened, when and where.
A driver involved in an accident causing injury, death or damage must report it within twenty-four hours under Section 52 of the Road Transport Act 1987.[1] The full steps are in how to lodge a police report for an accident.
Insurers and courts treat this report as key evidence, so its accuracy matters as much as its timing.
You are normally given an acknowledgment when you report. Keep it safe with your other accident documents. A missing report can slow down an otherwise straightforward claim.
Once you are hurt and the report is lodged, an independent lawyer can use it as the starting point for your claim.
