JPJ (Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan)

JPJ, short for Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan or the Road Transport Department, is the government body responsible for vehicle registration, road tax and driving licences in Malaysia.

Its records can matter in a claim, since they confirm who owned or was licensed to drive a vehicle at the time of an accident. See the documents you need to build a claim. JPJ is separate from Puspakom, which carries out the physical vehicle inspection.

If ownership or licensing is disputed after a crash, a JPJ record is the first place to check. JPJ also processes the transfer of vehicle ownership, which matters if a damaged vehicle changes hands before the claim is resolved.

If the other vehicle’s owner is unclear, an independent lawyer can take the claim on and trace them.
